Anyone else painted their helmet?

I just "finished" this one. I was just bored and the gloss black was not working for me.
Figured id go for the weathered old school look.

Happy with it, but would love to do another. Helmets unfortunately are pricier then canvas!

Nice work guys!

I would have purchased one from Old School Helmets, but due to the tough laws in Australia which don't allow DOT only approved skid lids, I had to do my own thing. All helmets in Australia must pass AS/NZ 1698 certification with a permanent sticker to prove it to the authorities, so I used a locally approved brand as a starting point.

I did the bulk of the painting myself, with an ex GF doing the fine detail on Pepe's face and the pin-striping being performed by a local artist.

I was recently sent a black helmet instead of the white I ordered. It looked so good but i always had white helmets for the visability. I found reflective letter squares at the hardware store and there were blanks. I cut the blanks into smaller squares and used these to make a simple checkered reflective stripe that looks cafe good and "lights up" in headlights. Winning!

I've painted my helmets in the far far past and they looked good but teh stuff I see here is way beyond my talent. Props to the talented. :^)

hey Tron, all freehand. we sketch out the idea out on paper first, then sketch again in pencil on the helmet. then go over it once or twice with 1 shot depending on the contrast of the colors. here is a pic of the first coat going on...
