HELP !!! Gas Cap Reassembly

Trying to get the %@*!!? bike put back together this weekend. Tank looks pretty good after paint and countless hours of polishing. Cleaning the gas cap and "%$@)&%! Me" let a small part ( L bracket or plate) fall out and I can't figure out how to get the release mech back together. Stupid !!!!!!

Any diagrams or pics, ANYWHERE ????
Any advice ???
