Hi all I'm Rob from Sydney Australia first ever post and very new to XS650 :)
Needing help identifying 34mm triple clamp from maybe a XS650C front end as being to narrow from other top clamps.
Have tried early 77 34mm and 75 34mm XS650 clamps and were a touch to wide.
Looking for alternative clamp that will fit straight on top without the bar mounts.

Much help would be appreciated.

Rob

Hi Tony, do you know if all the 34mm triple clamps differ in width over the years all is it one size fits all?

That triple in your pic is from a 74 TX650A or a 75 XS650B, 34 mm forks. (wrong), The triple isn't off an XS650 more likely a TX 500

The triples do differ from 34mm to 35mm and the top triple bracket is different on the 76C to the one in your pic, because the gauges and bracket changed in 76. 76 Gauges and Gauge bracket will swap onto any later (77-83), top triple bracket.

The 35 mm forks have to have the same inside measurement as the 34's because the spacers on the wheels are the same and the guards will swap over from the 34's to the 35's

Just looked at the other pic of the bike on photo bucket. The forks are 34mm from a 74 TX650A or 75 XS650B, (gas tank is the 74/75 model). The fork legs have been swapped from side to side so the caliper is facing the rear of the leg. The tell is the mounting tag for the brake line at the top of the fork should be facing the rear, and all XS650 forks have the axle clamp on the left fork and the axle nut should tighten from the right. Made to look like a 76 XS650C

Hi 650Skull and thanks for your time and info.
I did end up buying a top clamp from an old 75 XS650B and it seemed to wide to fit.
That's why I was asking if the 34mm 74-76 clamps differ in width over the years.
Just confused as to why these clamps don't fit

Black top in first pic is a 74TXA/75XSB 34mm triple top.

Clean top in first pic is a Special 78SE-83SK 35mm Triple top

Looking at the triple top on your bike there doesn't seem to be separate risers, the riser is molded into the tree as one piece. If that is the case then the tree top is not from an XS650.

Found this, it a semantic of a TX 500 looks like it could be the one on the bike.

That is a TX 500 triple top, the same as the semantic i posted.

All XS650 Triple tops have separate risers with bushes that go into the 2 holes close together as seen in the first pics in post #5

It looks as though it will fit onto the 34mm 74/75/76 XS650's

As your bike shows.

The idea of the Bushed riser in the 650 was to help minimize the vibration of the Parallel twin

Just found a semantic with the 75B as having a choice and one of the tops is the same Part no as the triple top as yours.

That will correspond with the reference no being the same as the TX500. 371-23435-01-98 CROWN,HANDLE.

The black Crown handle in the pic in post #5 will bolt straight on.

Should be measuring inside to out side across the fork mounting holes to get a true center to center measurement.

I just wanted to have the open hole look from the XS650B.
So best just to get hold of bottom triple clamp from a TX650A/XS650B and get to work.

You have one and it should fit your bike as is .XS650B Crown Handle the black one .
OK ill it a go but have doubt as both clamps in the picture holes line up when on top of each other.

Will let you know how I go.
Thanks for the help 650Skull

If you think about it, a 35mm hole is only 1/2 a mm wider one side than a 34mm. 1mm wider in diameter so it will be hard to see sitting them on top of each other.

Well got me.

Looks like the front end could be off a different XS.

Took a series of pics from my 74TXA, 80SG and a 77D/78E/79F crown bracket and some measurements for you to compare.

Pics are in my Album Here.

That is not the place to measure the brackets. When i laid the 77 bracket on the 80 the pinch bold mounts were longer on the SG than the 77, need to measure as in my album and if you can give us the center to center of the fork tubes, (as in my album), it may help to identify the forks.
