Help with broken engine part ID needed

Hi all. First post. Excited to be part of the group. I just picked up a '78 Special to build. I dropped the oil and found a broken internal parts attached to the rear magnetic plug. Wondering if anyone has any ideas on ID ing it before i get ready to start it up.

like WER sez, that's a transmission dog.
OK there's 3 dogs so the transmission may work kinda OK with just two.
So long as you are certain sure there ain't another one busted loose that's still drifting around in there looking for the place to best cause major damage.
So DON"T START UP NOTHIN' until you've taken the tranny apart, found out the full extent of the damage and replaced the broken parts.
This list's classifieds is a good place to look for used parts.
