How to rename links and link to other threads and posts

KevC, I fixed that link for you.. I think that's what you wanted anyway... If you click on the number in the upper right corner of any post, it'll show you a single post view (that post all alone). In the single post post view, click the upper right corner where is says 'Thread: thread name' and it'll take you to that post within the thread. That's the link you probably want.

- when you click on the blue link icon http:// appears, delete this and copy the full link address into the space provided, then click, ok

- the link is created by URL="http://.... and .... /URL inside the square brackets [] in the front and rear ... delete what appears between these endpoints-it is in blue-and type the words in between that you want to appear in your post

Cheers INXS, had wondered how to do that for ages!

thanks inxs but I guess I better stick to the long link, tried it a few times but couldn't get it to work:banghead:
Well done yamaman, wish I knew how:wtf:

Kev, copy your link (don't paste it anywhere yet) come down to the reply box. Along the top of the reply box, you've got buttons for bold italic underlined colour, then there's a blue ball (I think it's the world)

Click on that button, delete the http that's there already, paste your link in there. then press ok (or whatever it says there) then your back in the quick reply box. Now delete what is highlighted in blue & write what you want in there. Easy huh! :cheers:

ThinkIGot It
think I got it sussed
(sorry Travis, we just been playing, trying to work this out, you may want to delete these or move them somewhere else)

Guys this is even easier than you all think.. Just type what you want the link to say, highlight it, and click the 'Insert Link' button and type or paste the URL. :thumbsup:

It'll end up looking like this: [noparse]XS650 Forum[/noparse]

- sweet, knew there must have been an easier way, just hadnt sussed it, had figured the longer way simply by trial and error

Yep, and to get BBcode to show up in a post to help explain things, in the advanced editor click the <> symbol and enter the BBcode and it will look like this in the editor:

[noparse]
HTML:
[URL="http://www.xs650.com/forum/"]XS650 Forum[/URL]
[/noparse]

and show up like this:

HTML:
[URL="http://www.xs650.com/forum/"]XS650 Forum[/URL]

Or you can wrap the BBcode in the [noparse][noparse] and [/noparse][/noparse] tags like this:

[noparse][noparse]XS650 Forum[/noparse][/noparse]

And it will show up like this:

[noparse]XS650 Forum[/noparse]

It basically tells the system not to actually do anything with that code but just to show it to everyone.

Make sure every tag has an end tag or it won't work. (end tags have the forward slash in them)

Hmmmm, whats a BB code anyway? :confused:
Ok, I just had a look at wiki, got bbcode sussed

:cheers;

HTML:
:cheers:

[noparse]:cheers:[/noparse]

:cheers: You can click this one, it's a link!

:cheers:

:doh:Can't get my head around this, is there an easier way to explain for old gits without a clue:confused:

Jay, ignore everything I said in post 11 and look at post 9:

Guys this is even easier than you all think.. Just type what you want the link to say, highlight it, and click the 'Insert Link' button and type or paste the URL. :thumbsup:

It'll end up looking like this: [noparse]XS650 Forum[/noparse]

Maybe a slightly more detailed explanation would help:

Just type what you want the link to say in the editor box. In this example I'm using XS650 Forum. Highlight what you just typed (XS650 Forum), then click the 'Insert Link' button (it looks like earth with a chain below it) and type or paste the URL into the box that pops up when you click the 'Insert Link' button. In this example the URL is [noparse]http://www.xs650.com/forum/[/noparse].

After you press OK, it'll end up looking like this in the editor box:
[noparse]XS650 Forum[/noparse]
