ignition coil replaced still no spark?!?!

ok so when i was done riding my 80 xs650 thought i turned my key all the way off but didnt. so my ignition coil crapped out and started spewing white smoke while it was parked and not running. so i bought a new ignition coil put a new fuse in and boom no spark. maby it could be the voltage regulater? i dunno.. but no spark..
any advise would be rad thanks in advance.....

What ignition system? The stock TCI has a not running cut out to protect itself and the coil.
Voltage regulator doesn't really have much to do with it. What replacement coil di you check all the fuses? then check for plus 12 at one coil lead.
