Just bought this bike carbs seem to need adjusting?

i just bought this 1979 xs650. seem to pop alot sometimes. and the idle is up and down alot. the guy i bought it from said that they needed to be adjusted or synced up. where do i start? the bike seems to drive fine just at low RPM at idle it acts funny.

Start by giving the bike a complete tune-up in this order:

- Check/adjust timing chain
- Check/adjust valves
- Check/adjust points and timing
- Check/adjust carbs

Notice that the carbs are last on the list. Everything else must be checked and verified correct before doing the carbs. It's also a good idea to drop a float bowl and make sure the carbs are clean inside.
