Thanks guys! Hopefully I won’t have to wait for winter to take another long ride. I caught a nice break in the weather yesterday, but our heat hangs on like a hair on a biscuit. It can still hit 100 degrees in early November!
Life without snow comes at a cost. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at how agreeable my XS2 was to riding longer distances, keeping the speed down on it is the key. It feels like it could go forever at 55 - 60 mph.
60 mph works out to be about 4000 rpm. It’s hard to be exact, my tach needle is nice and steady at lower rpm, but it starts to bounce a little over 3500 rpm.

Early a.m rides are prolly the best this time of year..or head up to Alpine...High country is most comfortable too..problem is you have to come back down.. 55 to 60 mph is just right ..you're moving along at an unhurried pace and you have plenty of time to smell the flowers along the way. I havent ridden that way since the 1980s..but getting back to the essence of motorcycling...Less is more. BTW I would love the convection of Arizona's summer..but prolly not while exposed on two wheels..anything over 93* is just cooking yourself at speed...:yikes:

Glacier National park or BUST
On July 6th a friend and myself decided this summer it was off to Glacier Natl park
This year going out west from MN we decided to take Highway 2 from ND to Montana it's mostly 2 lane so you don't have to do 75 80 mph all the time
Anyway we powered through ND until Lakota ND where we spent the night (nice motel with a bar and a restaurant which we need every night especially the bar)The next day we stopped to get fuel in Rugby ND and came across a marker for the geographical center of North America (when we filled up we were told it's actually 80 miles further west (close enough)
Back to Hgwy 2 again headed west bit of construction nothing major just muddy and a bit of loose fill in places

Moving on somewhere in the construction zone I lost my stator cover felt something touch my foot never gave it a thought (ya know construction road rocks?)
When we stopped for the night I noticed the cover gone and did a McGiver with Alum duct tape at least it was shiny
Further down the road my speed quit working stopped cable had come loose tried to tighten it started to cross thread gave up (didn't need a speedo the Harley in front of me had one )
Continued on the next day towards Glacier
The next bunch of pictures are of the hotel from the night before and of Glacier it self

You had to be there I just stopped posting pictures didn't want to hog up too much space
From Glacier we headed south from there to set up for going through Bear tooth pass Got down to interstate 90 where we would catch Hgwy 212 towards Red lodge MT and the start of the Beartooth pass
and quite a few miles before 212 my bike hiccupped once I took the next exit and it died ( the bust part)
With the help of Total strangers got it to a gas station and were then led to a mechanic who helped me install a new battery no one would Take a Dime WOW(replaced 2 yr old wet cell)
12.6 volts charging to 14 volts at 3000rpm good to go
Next day battery down to 10.6 volts it don't want to go
It will run with out battery one once you get it going but something was drawing current faster than the Alt could put into the battery So no running of headlight Time to head for home
Missed the Bighorns SOB but made it home no lights no problem and charged the battery every night on the way home to be sure

Next bight we were in Hungry Moose ? MT here's a picture of my buddy with a bunch of strange locals ( looked to be mostly damn near crack heads we were forced to drink with as walking to the next bar was over 2 miles away (we just don't drink and drive- but we do drink)
This town closes its restaurants etc by 8pm midweek (strange city )
