Hey all,

I picked up a sweet tx650 last year and have it running quite well.

One of my complaints are the air filters that the PO installed, they are a bit like uni filters. They are full of a very sticky oil and are starting to fall apart.

In my search for filters I came across this;

anyone ever used one or think it would work? The description does list a 79 xs650 as a possible canidate. or should I just stick with the standard like these?

I should take some measurements, just thought someone might know more than me.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! I'm not sure about the first "universal" one, but these K&N pleated filters don't work as well with the stock BS38s. The vacuum slide needs a better "signal" (straighter flow, hence the term Constant Velocity), the Unis direct the air better whereas the K&Ns leave the vacuum slide port too close to open turbulent air dissrupting the signal usually with a flat spot in the top end of the rev range. I DID have a set of the oval tapered 2nd one(s) you linked, WITH the associated stumble. Now I have the Uni's (part# UP4229). I should have done it sooner.....Ahhhhh experience:wink2:

awesome news. those uni's look just like the ones that I am currently running. the only reason why I am looking to rid my current filters is because they are starting to deteriorate.

very helpful information sir, thats why I love spots like this on the web.

once again,
thanks
