1973 TX650
Two owner/4000 miles.
It's pitted ,so, I think it's lived near the ocean, but, it is a good runner......Al

A picture of my bike. I was searching for an XS to build a tracker or scrambler, then, a year ago I ran into this one. It had run only 250 km after a complete rebuild. New pistons and big fin cylinder block, bigger capacity oil pump, external oil filter, hydraulic clutch, heavier clutch springs and new basket. The only thing I still have to do is putting in a pamco. By now I have ridden 3000 km with it without any problems.

Had to get a couple more today out in the sunshine.

Also my buddy just picked up the June issue of The Horse and my bike is in the Back Talk section.

It's hard to believe that since last August (12) we have been working on this bike. We are in the final stages of wiring and it's time to start her up. Look forward to posting the results...

Put down your paintbrush! That bike is not too ugly to ride. Wash it if you must. First things first. The brake fluid should be changed every year and the brake lines replaced every four years. Start there. Go through the brakes. Make sure it stops. That's #1. How old are the tires. I'm sure you need new ones.

Make it run. Adjust the valves. Adjust the cam chain. Change the oil. Make sure the sump filter isn't torn. Clean the fuel tank. You may have to rebuild the petcock. The carburetors probably need attention.

Change the fork oil too! Lube everything that needs to be lubed.

It's easy to get caught up in making it look pretty, but put that aside. Once you're riding it and it is a safe functioning machine, then you may work the cosmetics.

:twocents:

BTW, that's a real nice find.

My BritXS I just sold . . the rip was just beginning to happen. I still did the fix even though it hadn't really torn yet. But it seems most are torn.
