It was well worth the 96 bucks and change.

...It had that Toyota-like self reving thing which was a lot of fun with no kill switch...

- dont believe all the negative things you hear about toyota...ive had several, done over 300K each with only cam belt and oil changes...most reliable cars ive ever had...would get another no worries

This is a picture of my free '72 Yamaha XS 650. I sold my Sportster to a buddy of mine who had this bike. It wasn't running and he said it would cost too much for him to get it running. Said there was a lot of electrical problems and it needed a lot of new electrical parts. Asked me if I wanted it... no charge. I jumped on it!!! I replaced the positive battery terminal and wiggled the ignition at the key and six kicks later I was rocketing down the road!!!

Hey, jmcgowan, that bike looks fantastic! Love the brit look. How much of a PITA was it to mount the Standard seat to the Special frame?

the seat is from a 77 I think, they both had the side hinges so it was pretty easy. I had to cut out a small rectangular section of the seat pan because of a metal tab. It's not totally done yet, I need to switch the seat lock off my old seat onto this new one. For the money though it can't be beat, I got the seat off ebay for about $45 shipped.

On page 4 of this thread there's older pics with the original seat/bars
