Finally got my project on the road in full paint. Put 50 miles on it today without any major issues. A small oil leak and the oil breathers are puking since the sump box is not hooked up yet. I have another good days work to call it done but at least I can ride it now. I call it the XSGT. Runs great, sounds awesome, handles smooth and predictable. I am very happy with how it turned out. It has already gotten lots of lookers on the first day out. Maybe someone can give me a tip on how to do the thumbnail photos so I don't take up a page when I post these. Thanks.

I'm thinking of making pipes like that for my bike. Any leg burns with your mids?

Nope when you sit on it with your feet on the pegs my legs are like 4" away from them. Im (5'10") The only time you have to be cautious is moving it or sitting at a light. But to battle it .. i made a heat sheild and wear jeans. I only ever got zapped once and it was from one of the brass heat sheild bolts and i was moving it around in shorts after i had it running in my driveway tuning it.

The wrapping gets warm but not 3rd degree warm .. the back ends of the pipes stay pretty cool too believe it or not. Theyve got a coat of high temp engine black on them .. and two or three coats of BBQ black satin on top. Seems to work out well for me.. smelled like the dickens for about 120 miles .. and smoked like a chimney for the first 40 or so..

Just took her out for a dustoff, 69 degrees and I don't think we'll be seeing too many more of these temps for a while.
Looking to do a couple more cosmetic changes....lucas style tail-light and a longer, lowered seat, maybe leading axle 36 mm xs750 forks for a bit of rake....maybe.
Mechanically, she's the tops!!!!

If you use xs 750 trees you wont gain anything on trail. The trees alighn almost straight with the post and the leading axle being leading takes back what was lost in the trees.
However I beleive after examining the stock trees closer that they can be bored to accept the 36mm tubes and then you would gain in trail. There is sufficeint amount of material there too. Good luck your going to love the forks, better have good shocks however cause the 36mm springs are much stiffer then 35's. But work well.

Hey Roy,
Those pictured are 36's from a '77? xs750. I did the stem swap and I'm really pleased with the result. Appreciate the info you sent btw......
Now, would there be a change in rake using the leading axle with these trees installed? I did get a little better than an inch in length and the sidestand is now back to standard operating procedure since the lowering of the rear.
