figured i'd post the latest pics, gotta get it evaluated now before i can transfer the title to my name... government wants thier taxes and they think the bike may be worth money.... (they charge sales tax on private vehicle sales too).

O.K. Guys - here are mine:
1981 XS650H - bought new in January of '82 - Vetter Quicksilver fairing installed March '82. Recent mods are: chrome airbox covers, new Metzeler 880 tires, and modified / rebuilt seat (still have the original). Otherwise, bike is all original.
1980 XS650SG - bought last January off Craigslist - restored / rebuilt early spring - had been sitting for about 6 years - some of that time apparently outside. Had to do lots of rebuilding - down to bare frame - top end of engine (bad head gasket, front cam chain guide, etc.)- think it turned out pretty well - LOTS of fun to ride!

Thx guys. Its a nice rider....not a 900 mile original or rotisserie resto. Not even a numbers matching engine :( I love it for what it is though....it came a LONG way.

I don't have a starting pic, but this is after a solid week of cleaning etc. The tins were shot. Thankfully my old man is a body/paint guy :)

Bunch of nice bikes amazing how many different interpretations of XS650 can all squeeze into the same tent.

I have to toss out a warning about the evil handling that the early bikes have. No one should be unprepared or even ride one of those things at speed. (IE over about 50MPH) Unless there have been some mods to mitigate the disaster that is waiting to bite you. Been there, survived that. (barely)
