Id heard, or someone in this forum has said XS650 carbs accumulate a lot of crap, but look at this! How can I keep this from happening again?
Looks like there may have been some water sitting in there. If you use ethanol gas and do not ride a lot or not keep the tank full you can absorb water. It sits on the bottom of the tank and is drawn into the carbs and corrodes the bowls. Do you run filters? How do you store the bike in the winter?
Start off clean and fit an inline fuel filter. Also, if you remove your petrol tap you may find that the pipes that allow for the on/reserve action have been removed so you are drawing fuel from the bottom of the tank where the crap sits. Mine were missing so I made some replacements out of brass tube.
new filters have been put in and the petrol tap pipes are ok. I just want to make sure it NEVER gets that much gunk in it.
First off...................Those bowls are not off your XS650......................
Second, .....................................no where in your threads has some one said the XS650 carbs accumulate a lot of crap.................In fact no carbs will ever accumulate crud like that unless they have been sitting for a long time.
Third. ...................Recently, within a couple of weeks, your Mechanic has just done a carb clean..............no way could that happen on a bike running as good as yours supposedly does.
Conclusion......................A literally of lies
I'm on script. Relaying true information and not acting like a troll seeking attention. maybe if you read my post you will learn something
View attachment 89939 So I had been experiencing backfiring and popping noises in my exhaust. Took the carbs apart and look at this stuff!!

I wish I was getting some attention. It gets lonely in South Wales on a Friday evening.
Here are pics of his two bikes. They both seem to have Mikuni carbs. One has old dubious swing arm bolt. Don't know why anybody would buy two in five days, except Gary.If you have managed to fit a different type of carburetor
