Anyone in the Portland Oregon area have an xs750 rear mag they're looking to unload (18x2.15)? I found a few threads regarding the adaption of other XS model mags to the 650 but I'd really like to see what the wheel looks like with all the shaft hardware removed from the rim. I'm hoping to end up with 18x2.15 mags front and rear.

Or if anyone happens to know if the wheel is symmetrical with the innards removed that's all I really need to know. Symmetrical AKA, are both sides (brake side vs. shaft side) the same with the drive hardware/shaft removed?

I've been wanting to do the same thing. Drive side is different from brake side. Planned on making an adapter to convert drive side to chain sprocket. Just too many other projects ahead of it...

Happen to know if the disc rotor lands in the same place as on an xs650? I know the axle diameters are the same... just wonder if the disc rotor would need re-alignment.

Is the rim width the same? I have a XS750 wheel. The brake disc does not line up as the XS650. Close, but not quite. I plan on having a adapter made up for the drive and a spacer made up for the brake side. Spacing like the original wheel. I hope to use the same size bearings and spacer.

Is the rim width the same?
Yes. It is 2.15 X18. I'm running a 120 Avon on mine. They are not cheap and shipping is a b*tch but the mod is pretty straightforward. I have some of the spacers left over from when I did mine if you decide to go that route. Here's how it is done: http://www.xs650.com/threads/18-18.30089/ Post# 18 (oddly enough) is how I did it.
This one is a bit pricey:

That all looks great, didn't realize the XS500 wheel was that size... I'll keep my peepers open for one in the future.
