In the process of reconditioning my '79 Special, I've taken the starter apart to check brushes and bearings. Both good, which is both good and bad: I was hoping worn brushes or dry bearings were causing my electric start woes.
Next step is to eyeball the entire starter gear train and bendix, but for the moment my question is what lube to use on the bearings when reassembling the starter.
Is ordinary grease okay, or something heavy like wheel bearing grease, or something specific to electric motor applications?
