Hey guys,

I did a total engine rebuild a few months ago and when I installed the crankshaft and transmission shafts I did not grease pack the associated bearings. I was assuming that they just needed engine oil for proper lubrication. Are these bearings supposed to receive other lubrication besides motor oil?

I've noticed a sound that intermittently occurs in my motor, a whirring noise, but the tempo of the sound does not seem to vary with RPM. any ideas? could this be a result of improperly lubricated bearings?

thanks for any help in advance.

The oil pump supplies oil to the crank bearings and the tranny under pressure. Oil gets pumped to the head for valves, rockers and cam. Oil gets squirted out of the oil gallery onto the rod big ends. Splashed up onto the pistons to lube the rod small end and cool pistons.
That's the basics. If you look around you will find oil path charts.
