My heritage special build

Cleric, don't look now but your ignorance is showing.
You say "broke down beat up 30 year old bikes" "these bikes are broke". These statements show how ignorant you are.
Yes, these bikes are 30+ years old. Some may be broke. I have seen many that just need a little care and run and ride just fine. Chopping maybe cheaper than restoring. And as far as looking better that's just your opinion, not a fact.
I don't "hate" Choppers. I don't hate bobbers, trackers, cafes either.
I think a well executed chopper, bobber, tracker or cafe is a pleasure to look at.
Taking a good XS650 and cutting it up, slapping on a hardtail and a sportster tank, isn't necessarily a well executed build. Thats just my opinion.
I have seen a few that are quite well done and the owners should be proud.
Some should be hid and not see daylight ever again.
I have an 82 that will get lots of work done, no hardtail, but can be called a custom.
Sleek, fast and will handle well.
If some think it's ugly, they don't have to look at it.

I like the exhaust run right acrossed the cover for the rotor, ought to warm it up quite nicely since they (the rotors) like heat so much, nothing like keeping as much heat in a engine as you can
Hey Jayel, You really are taking over for Teebs  Stock pipes run under that cover don't they? And unless the laws of physics don't apply to xs650's heat rises :umm:

Not much progress the past few weeks on the bike. I did start polishing my side covers tonight and I'm pretty psyched how they turned out.

My bike's apart getting some Tig welding done so I decided to polish some shit. My sissybar look horrible so I cleaned it up and polished it. I need to shave my fork legs so I polished them too.

It's been awhile but I finally started it up tonight. All the electric is done. Headlight, taillight, brake lights and brake switches are working. Seems to be charging properly too. I still have a bit or work to do but I'm psyched it started up.

Well it's been a few weeks and we've made a bit of progress. We finished up my brake linkage, covered up the brake arm mount, added a few inches to the brake arm and I bought a small battery. I think I'm going to put my ignition unit and small battery inside the battery box. We also started working on the exhaust again and mounted the ingnition coils.

The exhaust is finally finished. We had to make a junction on the left side.

We used three triangle tabs to support the exhaust.

Tanks is almost done and I need to work out the bugs but it seems to run ok. I have mess with the jetting and some small electrical issues. Hopefully it will be road worthy pretty soon.

Well it's been over a month since I've made any progress with my bike. We gave my tank to a friend to finish the bondo/glaze and that fucker had it for over 3 weeks and didn't do a damn thing. Pissed to say the least. Anyway we got the tank bank and finished it up ourselves. Not the greatest but it will get me through til winter.

I was afraid of getting stranded on the bike so I ran it around the block a few times and it still needs jetted but I was psyched to be on it. I get home and started to tune it up and then I broke off me damn key in the ignition!

I bought a new drag specialties switch and it sucks. Vertical is off. Turn to left is lights and turn it right is lights and ignition. My old switch was off, then ignition, then lights and ignition. This wouldn't be a big problem but I'm running a small ass battery and it seems to drain really fast when the lights are on and the bikes not running.

My Gordon Scott curved drag pipes run that close with no problems in 3000 miles.

It's been awhile since I updated this build thread. I had the bike on the road for a few days about a month ago. It ran pretty good except the charging system ate shit on me. My stator wasn't producing enough juice. I ordered and installed a pamco and I have my PMA ordered from Hugh. I'm hoping to get it running again in the next few weeks. I also wasn't happy with my mids so I made another set.
Here's what I had.

And the new ones before I welded them up.

It's been awhile since I updated this thread. I upgraded to a Pamco and a PMA. I was still having a few issues and I found out that my brand new ignition switch was shorting out. Over the winter I tore the bike down and had the frame powder coated along with the motor mounts, risers, triple trees, battery box, mids and a few other pieces. I also polished the right side cover.
Here's a few pics from late last year.
