New xs find?

As my 80 xs650 bobber build is coming to a end, ive been on the search for another bike to mess with. I came across a ad that said 74 yamaha 650 parts bike and honda frame for $200. So i called and went to see it, it is a xs650 and has been sitting outside since the 80s when a guy wrecked it. Its not that rusty and still rolled and turns over and he got down to $100 for everything. The question i have is the kicker will catch and turn motor over but at times it drops down and wont catch? any idea what this is? also the shifter was broken off in wreck, how hard to replace that. I wanna build it into a lil cafe for my dad to ride, and build it for as cheap as possible. Thanks guys

On the kicker, the clutch is probably slipping.

For $100, I'd be on that like white on rice.

You have a 73 XS2. It isn't exactly rare but not to many around and you paid $100 for it. Even without a title that's a good deal.
The same thing in Oz would cost more like $2000.
