No Clutch, but it feels like there is one...

Pull in clutch, it feels like it is working, I see the pushrod go in, but the clutch doesn't release - Crank is still coupled to the transmission. Really weird.
This is new to me 78 xs650 special.. sitting in the shed since 1999.
Thought maybe the plates got some rust and clutch is stuck together.
Tried bumping it with clutch pulled in, but engine turns over..
I skimmed over all repair aids and materials I have and have no idea what could cause this.
Any idea what to expect when I tear into it?

I had to tear mine apart and clean it. Still sticks sometimes in the garage haven't ridden it yet.

I have .122" pressure plate movement too (Hydraulic)

Yup, stuck clutch plates isn't uncommon. See if anything in this makes sense:
