Hello,

I was trying to remove the gasket of the oil filter cover of my 1979 XS650 Special II and I am struggling :(

The gasket is "baked on" or glued on, I simply cannot remove it and I don't want to damage the metal.

I tried heat (from a halogen lamp and boiling water) and soaking in paint thinner with almost no effect.

Is there a trick....?

Thank you!

Paint stripper and a stanley blade. Take care, slow is good. I just lightly rub the surface with a little wet dry afterwards (800 grit or thereabouts). Thats works for me.
