How about a big block of hardwood, drilled to look like a cylinder block. Slide onto cylinders, bolt down.
A crosshole would allow sliding a 3/4" rod thru, engaging the conrod small ends, when the crank is about 10°-15° BTDC. Then, turning crank, with its high mechanical advantage, should pop the case about 1/16"...
