Hey gents, my old filter had sludge aand some fine metallic or maybe shavings of somsort, can anyone explain what this is about, the shavings are very small.bike runs well just a slight tick from the front cylinder. Thank u, jo jo
You need to run a magnet over those filings if you still have them. Ali is often cam chain guide, though could be from elsewhere. Metal, well thats anyones guess. Sludge means change was overdue! Black plasticy bits are cam chain guide.
IF it is, then at some stage you'll need to change it. Which filter, bottom or side? I'll assume bottom as you said sludge. Any plastic bits? If its not to bad, just clean the filters and change the oil and run it for a while. After a few hundred miles drop the oil again and have a look.
To do the front guide the engine has to come out and the top end pulled apart, usually means it's time for valve seals, lapping the valves and new rings or more?? Depending on how things look.
