Starting with a stock ignition in a '73 TX650, you should already have a camshaft fitted with bushings, an advance shaft, and an advance unit.

The advance shaft and bushings in your kit were meant for the pointless TCI ignitions of the '80-'83 models. They're now spare parts.

But, you could replace your old advance shaft with that new one. Closely inspect, measure, and confirm that the lengths match. When fitted, you want just a little endplay of the advance shaft in the camshaft, say about 0.2-0.3mm...

Thanks Twomany, I will have a measure and compare. I guess the bushings could also be used if they fit. My old advance rod needs replacing thats why I went for that kit, so fingers crossed it all measures up, otherwise I'll be forking out more $ for another rod!
