'75 XS petcocks need more than a rebuild kit. What do you guys recommend for restoring? Soda blasting? They've been in dry storage full of rust for at least 20 years.

Remove all the "soft" parts (rubber, gaskets, plastic straws) then boil in vinegar for 20 minutes or so. That will loosen up and get all the fuel residue out. Then soda blast. Work the back side of the arm, the part that turns against the rubber disc, in a circular or figure 8 motion, on some 400 or 600 paper laid on a flat surface. When it's all done, nice and smooth, check the edges of the holes in it. If any are sharp, round them off a bit using a small sharp pocket knife. Sharp edges on the holes can tear the rubber disc up as you turn the lever.

Assemble using a small amount of regular grease between the outer plate and arm, and around the outer edge if no o-ring is present there. I use a silicone grease made for rubber on the rubber disc and the back of the arm, also on the outer edge if it has an o-ring.
