well i have found some important information......

about the years that used points for ignition.

the very important question is:

can the early model points be installed on a late model electronic ignition motor ?

if so what is the procedure to instal the dual points where the old electronic ignition was ?:)

Yes. First off, the inside of the cam needs to be checked against new advance bearings and labyrinth seals for clearance. Some members have had trouble with bearing installation cracking the cam.

I had a '71 engine running fine till it sucked a valve:(. Got an '80 engine, opened the cam ends up with a wooden dowel wrapped with emery cloth, installed bearings/seals, swapped out the: advance shaft, adv. mechanism, points plate, also went with the BS38 carbs and boots, and transfered the stator/rotor assembly too.:D:bike:
