I am enclosing some pix of my case on my 81 XS650H to ask the experts if they think I need to replace the crankcase before a rebuild/cleanup. They appear to be stress cracks on the left side only. After running a small pick over them to see if I could feel the crack, I'm still not sure. These are the best pix I could get. Please advise.
Thanks,
flyboy

I think it's deeper than that. I know the crack over the plugged pin hole is definately a crack but I can't figure out how that came to crack there since the hole was never used for a pin or screw.

They're casting marks. You're fine. My '81 has them also, in the same place.

Okay...there seems to be a consensus that they are mould marks and that they are harmless.
I will go with that.
Thanks to all that replied.
