Just put new stock size sprockets on 83 xs650 and put vx DID 530 104 chain together and go to put on rear wheel and its way too long WTF? Isn't this the stock size chain? Looks like 3 to 4 links too long? Anyone know why?
My guess is there are more than 104 links on the chain you got.
530 chain is 5/8" pitch 5/8" = .625" X 104 = 65" so the chain should measure 65"
The 5 in 530 = pitch in eights of an inch ie 5 = 5/8" 6 = 3/4"
second and third numbers are width in eights of an inch so 30 = 3/8" or 25 = 5/16" or 20 = 1/4"
Yes, probably just packaged/marked wrong. Look on the bright side - it's better than coming up short, lol. Personally, I always but 110, 120, or 130 link chains and cut to fit. Believe it or not, sometimes the longer ones are cheaper.
