removing starter

Only if you want to keep oil in the engine--- tim

Block off plates work, but some require retaining the seal, an easy alternative is a 1 53/64 inch expansion plug. Smear a little gasket sealant around the lip and persuade from the left side with a large diameter shaft/punch & dead blow hammer. Here's the link to the one I've got in mine :)

EDIT: bad link:doh:

Either way is achievable with motor in frame, but it would be easier to do the expansion plug trick while in-frame to keep the engine from moving around while you tap it in.

Yep, Ive just done mine. Over here ours is metric, so the closest I got was 47mm and a light file down fits great. Use a wooden drift that seats snuggly in the "inside" of the core plug and tap it in from the side that the starter cover is i.e left to right on the bike. A little sealant around the edge will help in and help it stay there.
