Chrome shops often have to strip old chrome before they can put on new chrome. Ask around, find a good chrome shop and they'll know what to do. There should be no damage to your cases.
PS. Sometimes chrome shops have to fill small scratches with plating before putting on the final coat. If there were scratches that were filled they will return.
Dusting off an old one here...
What does Bolt #5 actually do? Mine goes in up to the washer, and if I peek in there (cover is off because I had to find the washer and the oil was drained anyway) the bolt doesn't stick through there enough to engage anything. Also, part #1 has a hole in it, is Bolt#5 supposed to engage that hole? Bolt #5 spins but doesn't actually back out so I couldn't check, and finally Bolt#5 never actually gets tight.
Tach stopped working the other day so I figure the cable vibrated out of the square hole? Nothing is missing or busted looking, except the aforementioned Bolt #5 concerns.
