Reserve lighting and ignition

I've now got my got the bike runing from the first kick,
Start button does nothing ..
Brake lignt works from hand lever and foot, horn works
Dash illumination comes on if I turn the light switch on but the light gives me nothing.
I've followed this and had now luck (photos attached of the wires connected)

I have plans to rewire the whole bike as to be honest the wiring is a mess I inherited.
Any tips to resolve this before I rip all the damn wires out?

You don't say what year your bike is but in your pics, behind your hand hanging by a zip tie is the safety relay. It has two housings on it. That make it new enough that the safety relay turns the headlight on after the bike starts and the alternator starts making electricity.
The first thing you need to check is if your alternator is working. You do this by checking battery voltage with the bike off. It should read better than 12.5 volts. Now start the bike, let it run a minute or so, now check battery voltage at idle, 2500 rpms and 5000 rpms. Tell us the voltages you get.
