Serial # 447-202870 ...what year?

I just bought an xs650 and the guy i bought it from said it was a "79" but i looked online and according to the serial number on the frame, its a 76?? Just looking for someone to help clear this up.

The serial number is 447-202870....what do you think?

Welcome along Hopper, going by MIKES 1973 TX650 366 S650-200101 Metallic Flake Blue, or 1976XS650C 584 447-200101 French Blue.

Some charts do differ, so have a look in the tech section here & maybe even the old 650rider site for some other charts.

Or post a pic, some here can tell what year by the valve caps on the tyres lol

Yea used to love the real old valve caps (XS2 lol) that had the valve remover tip, had a brass plate inside. when it was removed it left a nice small opening, (not like the ones you get now), and it was perfect for those stops and it was easy to hide

My charts show the VIN # you list to be a XS 650C 1975-76 same as described by Yamaman above. Blue

Does the number on the engine match the frame? Maybe it has a 79 motor in it.

HI i just recently got a XS650 so i was told and the frame motor and vin all match but been trying to fiond out what year it is

Those same charts suggest to me,that 447-912205 is a model code 2M1. That would be made in 78 and a 79 XS 650 SF. Does it have cast wheels and front and rear disc brakes? That's a second year "Special" cast wheels, disc brakes front & rear, Mikuni CV carbs, BS 38mm, points ignition

yes it has cast rims and disk breaks front and rear dont know how to tell what kinda of carbs it has but it does have points

You're good to go, it's 1979 XS 650 SF, model code 2M1, points ignition, BS38 mm carbs (if stock). Second year of the "Specials", last year with points ignition and the BS 38 carbs. VIN# on both frame neck and engine and title should read 447-912205

Comes up as a 78 XS 650 SE made in 77.....also called a "2MO" model btw. Blue
