I'm a machinist. I was in the army for over 8 years and always wanted a mill and lathe. So when I was getting out I looked around and machining pays well and fit my interests, so 4 years later here I am. I have a mill and lathe, I work at Boeing 4 miles from my house, and can say I made the right choice for me.
I've always liked building things, especially bikes. Now I just have the tools and knowledge to actually make what I want instead of just a "close enough" hack. I honestly got lucky with the mill and lathe, and have under $1k invested in them.
