- this looks interesting...pity the XS doesnt really like sprockets large enough to make this worth the effort...chain lubrication will be interesting

Lubed chain, working brake <-- pick one.

I get the idea, but making it happen is just plain stupid me thinks.

My occasionally lightly lubed, $$$ X-ring chain wouldn't lube the disc. There are a lot of those things in use on the V-twin customs. Yeah, I know, but still...... :)

No worse than leaky fork seals? I think at least some sort of fence between the sprocket and disk would be useful.
 
I go through sprockets a lot faster than rear rotors. Seems like a waste to be replacing a perfectly good rotor every time the sprocket wears out.
 
I always thought the bicycle brake was a pretty good idea, if not well executed. Not the coaster (which was a good design), the kind with two little pads.

Think about it, the rim would make a great (large) disc, centrifugal force is maximized to keep the 'disc' clean. Just put disc pads on it and a decent caliper and you gotta serious brake.
