hello all i working on a bike i just bought and took the carbs completely apart and cleaned everything put new fuel lines and cleaned the gas tank. i posted a thread yesterday about my carbs and talked about the po who caught the bike in fire a little bit. so after cleaning everything up and getting it back togther i thought it was kick start only but it has a starter and it fired right up. im having issues with it running but i will post another thread after i figure out this starter. when i go to start it it will engage for about 1 to 4 seconds and then start making a screaching/ grinding noise. i assume i probably need to replace the starter? if so is there a specific starter i need to look to see if i have? i believe the ignition may of been changed. also i dont know if this is helpful but i when i try to kick start it doesn't slip.

Search starter clip and you will find the answer.

can i order mikes xs with the flattened sides and use on the starter even if its older gears or should i just buy nos and put it in a vice to get it a bit tighter?

I just bought the gear and the clip and it worked out great. Some of the long time gurus here have simply re bent tbe spring on their vice. I originaly re bent the spring but it still slipped.

Might want to read through these before buying from mikesXS.
