Stock exhaust, 78 and up.

I'm in need of a stock left side pipe/muffler for my 79 special and I'm wondering which years are compatible with my right side pipe, mount points etc. I have a lead on an 82 pipe. 78 and up all look pretty much the same although 81 up the part number goes from 2MO-14710-01-00 to 3U6-14710-01-00. Are they compatible? Thanks.

Yes they are compatible. I have one of each on my bike (78 Special). The only difference I see is that the exit hole at the back end of the muffler is in a slightly different location. Those OEM exhausts are super high quality, and I like them a lot!

Hi queenslegs,
like the gent. sez, all the welded-together exhaust systems mix'n'match OK.
But each year they made them they got more and more internally strangulated to keep the exhaust noise down.
So if you do end up with different year mufflers on different sides of your bike you may notice the later year side running a little quieter.
