Here's another Lucas re-pop install. I got this from Mike's XS, but it's available from several vendors. I really like the look. Couple of issues: all three screws were too short (easily fixed w/ longer stainless steel ones); very cheap 2-wire socket (replaced w/ OEM Yamaha 3-wire socket from a Virago front signal). I put a Superbright 45-tower red LED in it.

#1 on the Lucas re-pops....I found the lens screw reciever nuts rather chintzy though in their mounting and broke one loose by a bit of ham fisted tightening. No prob.....find a drill bit the same diameter of the lens screw, drill through the housing where the chintzy nut mounts, acquire a bit longer lens screw and place the nut on the outside rear of the housing adding a small lock washer. Better than new.

Yeah, one of mine went recently , I was thinking what to do with it the other day...

I have a Maltese Cross above the license plate on the right side, its nice & bright--but not LED--and during daylight hours it gets washed away. At night time, or during cloudy days, or in shaded streets it is good. I tend to pump my brake a few times to indicate my stopping/turning (no turn signals).

Mine, with the Lucas style lens

Hey XS1961 - Do you happen to remember where you picked up that tail light? Would love to run it on my stock '79 fender.

I see in your reply to Aldo that you may have gotten it from MikesXS. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

Cheers,
-K

Cant remember BadYam' .It wasnt from Mikes.
Dozens of places in the UK sell them for around the £30 mark:wink2:

Do an ebay search for lucas style tail light....plenty to choose from....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Emgo-Lucas-...Parts_Accessories&hash=item27d0989e54&vxp=mtr

I've found that the Special rear fender with the 3 hole license plate mount- as opposed to the 4 hole brake light mount- is the better candidate for this set up.

Thanks for the advice - Knew it was a Lucas style but couldn't find one that looked that clean.

Was thinking of using something like this: http://www.dimecitycycles.com/vinta...aluminum-lucas-taillight-light-e62-21510.html

or this: http://japan.webike.net/products/1834323.html

Maybe for the added 'cool' factor: http://stores.stcustoms.net/-strse-166/2J2-dsh-84751-dsh-00-dsh-93,XS650/Detail.bok

But may just buy Mike's. My fender's got the 4 hole (Think it's 48mm) mount, so I may have said the wrong year for the fender (Oh, the joys of barn finds). Think your above ebay tail light will cover the holes?

Anyone else tried to cover the 4 holes with a lucas style tail light?

The tail lamp will cover the 48mm spacing though the spacing neede for the lamp is about 30mm plus.......just about right for the three holer. Also have to drill another about 3 to 4 inches up for the top mount. Going back to stock you'll just have to dress up or cover that top hole......a small acorn nut works well
