Tank Spray Paint Job! (PICTURES)

Got room for one more KUDO? Job well done looks great.
ISOs are nasty, did a Imron clear coat on a car with poor respiration 30 years ago it took nearly a year to recover full? lung capacity. Met a welder who was in a shop while they sprayed a truck with Imron. He retired on disability and wasn't playing games, he had barely enough lungs left to survive.
On what to spray first; lighter colors and metallics first, Dark colors, no metallics can be sprayed on thinner, so mask lines are easier to blend to a smooth finish.

Any idea how color-fast the Rub-Onz decals are. I presume it depends on what was used to create them. The reason I ask is that I created a window decal with an ink jet printer a few years ago and within a year, the film that I printed it on was completely clear - the ink had completed faded away.

Any suggestions on technique ?

Here's a couple pics of my Duplicolor base and spraymax clear paint jobs.

Looks nice man!

Id like to find some way to make the Yamaha symbol that I could clear over.... not sure how unless I find a design to stick on over the base color and peel it off afterward...

It's possible to clear over most good quality vinyl die cuts. They are fairly thick, so the paint may not be flat over the decal unless you load it up with several coats of clear. Then you run the risk of solvent popping, etc.

Get a vinyl printer/sign shop or whatever to make what you want. Sytick the whole piece on, remove the part you want on the tank and use the "waste" as the mask. Spray lightly the first coat, then add another, and peel off the vinyl and clear over it all. There you go. That's the way this one was done.

Its not hard to do with an exacto knife as well.

johnnymac, How many clear coats did you put on, and how long did you have to wait before wet sanding and buffing? Looks great by the way. I just started stripping my tank to get ready for paint. I'll post some pics when it's finished.
