Well it all started out one slow day at work when an 84 year old fella stopped by the shop I work at and had a couple old Yamaha's well at least what was left of them on a trailer. He said he and his 56 year old son had been hired to clean out an old building in nearby Tampa Fl. 15 minutes away and asked if I had interest in these rollers? One of them was a 1980 XS650 with No tins but front fender no carbs no coils and no seat but it had complete motor and full stock exhaust as well as full front and rear working disc brake systems.
At that time I owned a 79 XS in a hard tail frame and the norm springer front and seat (first picture)
Bottom line sense he had no title and showed me his drivers license I bought it at his price of $25 cash It's 2cnd and 3rd pictures
Motor was kicking over freely'
Well when I did a cold compression test knowing the motor had been sitting 4 or more years I got 98psi on both cylinders I thought no way they both came out exact so I did it three more times 5 kicks on each cylinder and it stayed the same.
So I pulled the motor and tore the top end down (Next 4 pictures)
One cam seal was leaking and oil was full of gas so I know carbs wear the reason it was in that shop and the front cam chain guide stopper was breaking up slightly and had bits in the pump filter

I have purchased new OEM Yamaha front cam chain guide from Boats.com Fuji sump filter from Mikes complete gasket kit from emgo (next 2 pictures) Also bought a almost complete Running like shit 1982 XS650 with Fl Title for $600 and gotta set of vintage Trumpet scrambler high pipes with the short megaphones just for the mufflers don't need the high pipes

Welcome from Canada’s sunny southern coast in Windsor, Ontario!

Looks like you’ve got yourself a ballgame!

Update on progress of the xs650rr
I work a lot so time is something I don't always have But I was off this Sat. and had already had the carb body's boiled in cleaner so I was able to clean & polish out all the brass , set the floats and replace the bowl gaskets.
Here are some more pictures. The first one is one of the float bowls before the overhaul. Sometimes I get into things and forget to take enough before pictures. Any 4 hoot now those are done bagged and tagged :) It's Beer thirty lol

Well not really happy or understanding why Partzilla sent this request to UPS to hand my parts over to USPS once it reached Tampa Fl. ????
My parts would have been here today when I got home UPS Tampa had my stuff processed at early AM and I'm 20 minutes from there GRRRRRRRR
(As requested by the sender, UPS has transferred this shipment to the local post office for delivery to the final destination.)

Yes Sir it sure do'es Jim
Hey have you or anyone else used a harbor freight portable abrasive blaster kit? with gravity feed hopper 50lbs capable
I've seen a couple video's on youtube using the black diamond coal slag 20/40 fine abrasive and as long as they keep the hopper above the object there spraying (DUH) and have at least 90psi AND USING A DRIER it seems to work very well on motorcycle frames and other light parts like calipers

Well Jim
I figure for less than $50 It's worth a gamble so I'm gonna Give It a shot I'll pick one up this weekend and get the black diamond 20/40 and post picks and results

Yeah, I'm definitely gonna get one for my next frame. So I'd be really interested in a report on the Harbor F. one.
Cost me more that I was happy with to get the SG frame blasted.
