Transmission fluid

I'm out and about, in the truck, headed for the auto parts store. WHat type of transmission fluid does the '76 XS650 use? Filter?

Umm, I thought it was just the oil you put in the case?

The engine, transmission, and clutch all use the same oil.
There is a filter on the sump plate, often torn, replace or patch.
There is a filter in the right side engine cover, seldom need replacing, just clean it and reinstall.
Do you have a repair manual? If not you should get one. It will be the most important tool you will ever own. It tells all about the basic maintainance on your bike and the not so basic.

Thanks, ggGary. Mine's a '76 but this manual will be fine until I get a Haynes.

- you would do better to watch fleabay looking for a genuine yamaha service manual than getting a haynes
