Trying to get 18"s on both ends...

I just looked at a picture of my bike, with the Omar's 19" rear wheel conversion on the back, and realized that I might be making this more complicated than I need to:banghead:
Now, I think all I need to do is find 2 spoked front wheels, with the disc brake option, use the Omar's kit to convert one hub to a back wheel, and then re-lace both hubs to 18" rims.

Make sense?

Not really any of my business, but why not sell the present bike certified and get a fresh one to turn into a cafe. The value you might get for the used tracker parts is probably a fair bit less then what they would bring in all bolted together as a tracker.

I'd be interested to see how that goes together.

Trackers are out, cafes are in! :D

Does your stock 16" hub have provision for a disc brake?
Do you know how wide you can go with the rear rim?
Thanks!

My 16 inch hub doesn't have any provisions for a disc brake. I would imagine if you had a spoked wheel 19 inch conversion like osteoderm you could go with a rear disc and lace that to an 18 inch rim.... Just a thought. As far as width, I did 2.15 inch front and rear but you can probably go as wide(or narrow) as the rim you find to lace up. I'm sure there are wider than what I used, I just wanted mine to match because I'm running the same size tire front and rear.

Edit: I should read all the posts in this thread lol. I agree with what you said above, find 19 inch spokes, re-lace to 18 inch rims, convert one to rear using the Kit you have

You will have to have custom spokes made. Buchannans? The 19 inch spokes would be too long obviously. I've got 2 front hubs, 2 2.15x19 aluminum rims and 2 sets of ss spokes from mikes to lace up. I will be using the Omars kit that is on my19 inch mag now.

I second that opinion... If/when i change my 19" rear out for an 18", I'll be sending the whole works to Buchanan's, for spokes, lacing, and truing. I'm all for folks lacing up their own, but for me personally, the time I'd take to do a satisfactory job is more valuable to me than the cost of shipping them out.

Thanks for the tip guys! This is now an "over the winter" project, so no rush anyhow...

Nice to see another member from the GTA ;-)
You might be right, but I have put a lot of work into the engine, etc., and don't really want to part with it.
Now, if you know of anyone looking for tracker parts... :wink2:

Well, after some forum and e-bay scrounging, I have found 2 19"front spoke wheels to work with, and have also found a pair of Akront 18" aluminum rims to go on to the hubs. Spokes are on order from Buchannan's.
In the meantime, I had the conversion parts removed from the 19" front mag that was on the back (successfully removed and re-installed the bearings and spacer with the help of a local specialist ;-)), and have reinstalled all of the kit on to one of the spokers.
So here is how it goes together...

I'll be taking this apart again to properly clean the hub before lacing the new spokes to the Akront rims, but that gives me something to do over the holidays
