Hi Guys
I'm Kevin from Ireland and this is my first post ..I'm rebuilding an 1978 xs650 and need to replace the valves . I have found a complete set of valves for an xs500 would these fit my engine

Hi Kevin, welcome to the forum. I haven't looked it up but the answer is going to be no, XS500 valves will not fit your XS650. The two engines are very different - the 500 had four valves per cylinder. But tell us some more, why are you rebuilding the engine? Do you definitely need new valves? Often they can be re-ground or even just lapped in with grinding paste. Photos would be good. Cheers, Raymond

Hi Raymond
The guy I got the bike from tried to lap valves and over laped them ..Valve seats still look OK but valves have sharp edges not all the way to the top of valve just where they where laped . I think I may be able to recut the angles on a lathe ..I have a few photos just trying to figure out how to attach them ..I'm definitely not a Harry Potter on technology 😅

Hi Raymond

Kevin, I'm certainly not an expert but that exhaust valve doesn't look like it's beyond redemption. Possibly a matter of getting the valves and/or seats re-cut? But the good news is that there are plenty of people on this forum with bags of experience who will be able to offer solid advice, so just watch this space.

Thanks again Raymond
