what a difference an excellent welder makes?

i think that was a 8 " pipe i welded that last year at work and was laying it down so slick that day i had to take a pic. some days are better than others and i was in the zone. no one can teach you how to weld only give you some basic intructions the rest is up to you more art than science. that is the tig rig in the pic

I agreee with you on the teachings, but I bet her machine has the electrode reversed. Just takes practice. frustrating, but when you get it, you will wonder why you didnt figure it out before.
In weld school, I was mesmerized by my instructors welding abilities until one day I did it too. But was kinda dissapointed because I felt the magic was gone. now its just something I do to pay the bills. Dont get me wrong, I still love to fab/weld, maybe I'm burnt on my job. I need a challenge.

i hear ya bro . its all just a job after a while. i wonder if porn stars get tired of f$#king? probably not

just to eliminate what may really be a mindf_cker..... would it hurt anything to change those wires and try it the other way?
I do have it set up the way the book says for gas.
But would it hurt to try it, with gas, hooked up the other way - the way it indicates for flux wire?

Angus, no offense.....but from You Avatar pic, You need more than a challenge. A new orthodontist would seem to be in order. Just sayin.....:D

Just a question a bit out of context:

Which welding method is typically used when welding frames? Like a hardtail conversion etc.

More often than not the frames will be MIG welded. Usually just because that's the welder the builder is more likely to have.

I prefer to TIG everything because I like the look more.

MIG is generally faster, and TIG is more time consuming, but I just like the way it looks better.

As long as you know what you're doing with either style there's no difference in integrity.

emz, go ahead and try it.
just curious, what is your regulator set at? mines set at 30. since your welding outside, try 40.

How about arc welding it?

Hacked you off a little bit Yamachop but more truth was in there, a good welder can safely weld frames with any of the common machines and techniques, including stick, gas welding and brazing.

Out of common usage but don't dis brazing, it can be stronger than welding if done well.

well that's one of my issues - I only have a 1 gauge deal - tells me the pressure what's left in tank, need a better one with a gauge that tells my pressure going out. Used to just crank it ope more or less all the way. But last night I tried it just open a turn or 2 - didn't make a big diff.

you need to get a real regulator. if you tank is open even one turn, the gas is comming out full pressure. that cuases turbulance at the weld. gas needs to come out close to ...um....a lover blowing into your ear?

emzdogz, you definitely need to make sure you are welding with reverse polarity when using solid wire and gas, this means the gun is positive and the ground is negative. not sure what the polarity is for flux core as i dont have experience with this process. but if you are welding solid wire with straight polarity, gun negative, ground positive, your welds will be all fuc#ed up

hi guys, I have it connected like the diagram on the inside of the machine's sidecover indicates, for solid wire and gas.

ok. did you get a proper regulator? make sure there are no kinks in your liner? leaks in your sheath? check drive rollers and tension?

no not yet. Am stripping gas tank today.
