What have you done to your XS today?

Hey, isn’t this swingarm a drum brake type ? It has a tab for a rear brake drum stay arm ? What is this doing on my “Special” frame ? Strange too is that it has rear axle slots that do not allow the rear wheel to slide out the back like my Standards. Maybe I should keep this if it is a drum brake swingarm ?
Thx, RT

Special II swingarm ? Guys, I am actually surprised and stumped here having never seen one.
Wish I knew more about this rolling abandoned project I hauled home on XS1 wheels ...

Um, lessee.
The 70-73 swingarms are the same,
Thin 8mm sideplates,
XS1B-Swingarm-SidePlate.jpg

About 1-1/2" shorter than '74-on. (Axle fully forward)

But, that's my world, 256 stuff.

For the '74-on swingarms, somebody else will have to chime in...

K, I give.. mfg date 3/81 (edit update lol)
I am very surprised by the change in the rear axle slots. Jeez now I have to get back to my truck and take a pic of my frame which I thought for sure was a rear disc frame ? Different tabs and a wire loop I’m not familiar with.
Maybe I should try to title it as I am a fan of the rear drums and spokes..
It checks clean in WA but IDK bout OR

So the motor went in last night. Today I was concentrating on the motor mounts and such. Most of my time went into wire wheeling and polishing all the bolts and nuts to get the PO s paint off. One thing I noticed as I was putting stuff together was a ground wire off the condenser to the upper motor to frame mount. That made absolutely no sense to me since it was already bolted to the motor mount but that’s how it was when I tore it down so I put it back. I think it’s PO bullshit and not needed. But a strong day. And yes I did clear and clean all powder coat ground contacts.

Machine: EDIT: duh... what Skull says in next post is correct...

Gator: that ground wire is normal. Just a bit of redundance. All XS650s have it. Even TCI models that don't have condensers.
