Hey, I appreciate that, but let me be clear- I’m not shit talkin specials. Different strokes for different folks, as it were. I think for me it’s the chunky looks of most of the seats, and the side covers. I also personally just don’t care for mag rims, but I have to admit they would be a lot easier and less expensive to work with than my 43 year old aluminum shouldered spokes. It’s just the total culmination of those style details that are the essence of a special are working against my personal tastes.

For me, the solution to the controversy has been to get a bunch of both styles, and regularly give each a big hug.

Man, that ‘75 tank kicks so much ass. I should have bought the one that popped up on the local CL last year.

Good Bones Steps Out - But Not Today!
Changing direction on this one as I have the '73 to focus on. Held back the tank I painted for it this summer in favour of a serviceable one that is primed.
A complete survivor bike that runs, will advertise it before too long.

Well, it’s not so much what I did to my XS650 today, but what I got for her....from an extremely generous CVMG member in Ottawa who saw the little article on the XS650 that I wrote a few weeks ago.
    0AB36930-F158-4FA3-9F11-6FBA4B575C96.jpeg

He told me that he had bought a brand new XS650C back in 1976 and loved it until he was rear-ended by some twit in a cage just as he was setting out on a trip to the Maritimes. The bike was totalled, but for some reason he had kept the owners manual all these years and he mailed it to me after seeing the article - and it arrived today.

He also mentioned that his wife’s name is....Lucie....

    Kinda spooky eh? :yikes:

    Twenty Bucks Worth of Metric
I took the time to figure out what I needed for two new sets of engine mount bolts and went to a local supplier.
They had the usual smaller sizes, but drew a blank on the longer ones. However I ordered 2 meters of M10 rod, which I hope to be able to cut to size and thread the ends to replace the bottom, two front and backbone bolts.
They almost had the backbone bolts, but they were about a half inch too short.
The rod will be the equivalent of grade 8 which in metric is 10.9 iirc.

Here in Canada, one is always aware of shipping costs and exchange rates, although not to the same extent as our friends in the Antipodes. So local supplier is always preferred.

I have been completely spoiled by amazon prime. Now I throw a fit if my one day free delivery takes two days. Paying Shipping sucks
