What have you done to your XS today?

Doing a few small jobs on "Red" today but I broke for some comedic relief....
PO indicated he just couldn't get the brakes bled.

T:)ilted special m/c on flar bars...
Wire, I think mentioned up thread. Start was iffy with switch gear mounted on painted bars. PO is a good guy, Marine, and I think honest but he got in too deep when mounting new carbs and not checking the mismatched jets.

I would think that nothing on the forks is a reliable ground except for a ground wire in the harness. I dont think a ground through ball or tapered roller bearings is a really good idea.

Useing the tach cable, (as an earth/ground) that isn't a fixed object, (slots into at both ends and covered in lubrication), that attaches to gears and shafts imersed in oil any better than going through head-stock berrings......???

Cut off all the mounts with a 10” hacksaw. There are a few low spots. Have a lot of sanding ahead. Very open to the idea of sending these to anyone with a lathe that can get them as close as possible. Shoot me a DM

Does "what did you acquire for your XS today?" count as what have you done to your XS?
- picked up a set of XS1100 wheels to do a 19" rear wheel conversion on an old Special that will be the next build
- bought one lot of XS parts sight-unseen consisting of two engines without cylinders (dunno why), a set of Special wheels, a pair of Special fenders, three stators and two giant plastic tubs of miscellaneous bits, all of which appear to be bagged and tagged. Stuff will be delivered this weekend, so will be fun rooting through the new stash!

Too Late to Turn Back Now!
The Burgundy '78 driver that I bought in June came with 17/36 gearing. In the past I have been a big supporter of this gearing as my red '76 that went to the Rally a couple years ago had this and it seemed just right.
With this '78, though, 17/36 has it revving close to 4300 at 100 km, plus this motor does not seem as smooth as the one in the '76.
The '78 "hot rod" project has 17/34, plus a new tire and chain so I thought I would switch them.
Oh, and I am taking the cargo rack off the driver and substituting a stock grab handle, plus just for s and g's, I am going to change out the tins to a black and maroon '84 tank with black side covers.
Pictures when done.

Having never rewired a whole bike harness before, I was finding it a bit of a struggle.
Wires everywhere like a kaleidoscope of colour and copper. And wiring in the M-Gadget unit it becomes obvious that normal gauge motorcycle wires make it harder.

Then today I came across Alarm System Multi Strand cable. Genius; who thought of that?
Available in any number of strands, and all in its own insulated jacket.
If you are considering wiring a M-Unit especially with M-Gadget Speedo / Tacho; just get some.
The Speedo uses the same fine wire to the micro connectors. So the 'alarm' wire makes it much easier.
