Welcome to the party, msmith! No title, huh? Maybe keep your eyes peeled for a donor Xs frame
with a title (somebody's project, abandoned before they chopped it up too bad? Or complete, but in boxes... it happens...). As for that wiring? Yeechhh. You may want to determine the year, for certain, get a new wiring harness (from MikeXs?), and start from scratch. Otherwise, you could be chasing bugs for a long time. You didn't mention if you have a manual. They are pretty indispensable. Yamaha, Chilton's, and Clymer's will tell you everything you need to know. And the Clymer's book has good, nicely detailed wiring schematics for all years. You gotta get (at least) one! But, before you start throwing money into it, do the bare minimum to get it started. You got it as
somebody else's project, so it's important to hear it go "VROOM", even just once. These motors are only
slightly more complicated than a lawn mower, so unless it's seized, or had some kind of catastrophic failure, it's hard for these to
not run. Send lots of pictures (we're nosy!
) and keep us updated with your progress (did I mention, we're nosy?
). Good luck, and best wishes!
More BEER!!!
