What makes the Isle of Man such a dangerous / often deadly race?

I'm surprised they didn't escort you off the island

The 30 limit sign was 2 miles before the village. Someone travelling in the opposite direction flashed his lights to warn me; I was hard on the brakes with the back wheel off the ground as I passed the sign. A pant filler for sure!

The court next morning was 4 porta-cabins in a farmers field. I queued for twenty minutes outside one cabin, entered confirmed my particulars, and they relieved me of £600 CASH ONLY! There were at least 150 other criminals waiting for their judgement. What a corruption racket that is!

Back in '98 I got a speeding ticket in a small berg/speed trap here and was going to contest it but by time trial or payment was due I was working an outage at a nuke plant in Sweden.
Ended up getting a postal MO and mailed from Sweden. I've often wondered if they kept the envelop as a novelty.

I wonder what percentage of the event period revenue stems from "want to be" boy racers speeding during the week

Apparently it makes up a significant part of the islands GDP
