Hi,
This is Nathan Lovern in Va. Im going to get my 82 Yamaha XS650 heritage special in a few weeks and I was wondering whats the difference in this model of XS?
If I want to gear it down a little do i get a smaller front sprocket or a bigger back sprocket?
Me and my wifes's weight together will be at the bikes limit.
Thanks

Mostly cosmetic differences.

Smaller front, larger rear for pull
Larger front, smaller rear for speed

Me and my wifes's weight together will be at the bikes limit.
Thanks

Get a second one.

Hey Nathan, try it stock and see how it feels. A lot of riders don't care for the high rpm's at 55 mph with the stock gearing so they lower the teeth on the rear sprocket, don't hear of many/any increasing the teeth on the rear.
I'm sure there are some heavy weights that are near your weight combo on 2 up.....mebbe they'll chime in- but getting a 2nd bike for your missus ain't a bad idea if she doesn't mind being at the controls.....
