I've been making choke adjustments. Yesterday morning at 0 Celsius the Virago struggled to start. Minor adjustment and this morning -2 Celsius the bike started first go. I needed this weather to set the carbs right because too much choke causes too much kickback on the Estart. My previous 81 SH had a similar problem, would kick badly on full choke so I filed some extra notches in the choke shaft so I could avoid the full on setting.
Also did an oil change because the oil level started to drop more regularly. Will check the old against the new using a Ford #4 paint cup.
Edit (27/11/20): Oil 10w40. At 16 Celsius the Old Oil gave 110 seconds and the New Oil gave 130 seconds. Certainly the base oil has deteriorated a little. Unfortunately I cannot determine how much the High Temperature 40 weight viscosity component has deteriorated. Next oil change I will go for a 20w40 oil as I cannot see me riding much below 5 Celsius.
